The July issue of Oral Health is guest edited by the renowned Dr. George Freedman and focuses on new technology in dentistry. We were very pleased and honored to be invited to contribute to this publication. Our own Dr. Peter Rusanen provides in his article "Video Dentistry: Observations, Practical Uses and Research" a close view on how Futudent started as an idea, evolved into a prototype and is now in worldwide use by both the private and academic dental sectors.
As you can read in the above article, we at Futudent see more and more adoption of video dentistry throughout the world. In the private sector the reasons include patient education, documentation, internal communication with insurers and technicians or even legal protection. In the academic area we see both teachers and students apply Futudent technology for showing and evaluating their work. Current research is showing conclusively the positive effects video dentistry has on users, colleagues, students and patients alike. We therefore look forward to the Video Dentistry Workshop in Barcelona this year and discussing with representatives of many universities how video dentistry can be further researched and measured.
