The development of the Futudent video system began in 2006. Mr. Peter Rusanen, who was then studying dentistry, was thinking about how the profession could be developed and found that there was a need for a way to save and share information with colleagues. He realized it was difficult for a dentist to receive feedback about his or her work because there was no easy way to share experience and learn new things from others.
Peter approached his brother Mr. Niko Rusanen and friend Mr. Lars Kåhre with the problem, both experienced product development engineers. They quickly discovered that no suitable camera was available on the market which could be used to save treatment sessions from the dentist’s point of view. Thus began years of development work.
During the development stage, the camera technology was tested in surgical hospital of Helsinki, in department of clinical dentistry. By filming in an authentic environment, valuable information was obtained in order to optimize the usability and functionality of the camera.
In September of 2011, the Futudent concept was ready for launch at the ADEE (Association for Dental Education in Europe) conference held in Antalya, Turkey, where Futudent was met with an extremely positive response. According to company CEO Lars Kåhre the company has three customer segments: universities, municipal dental care and private dentists and clinics. Each segment has its own needs and ways of using the service. The technology is the same for all segments, but software can be used to respond to the needs and characteristics of different segments.
"Our company's strategy is to set out for the international market: our sights are set on the European, Middle Eastern and North American markets," says Lars Kåhre, shedding light on the company’s future plans.
